Introduction to a future business owner

Hi, my name is Mohammad Noon. My major is MIS and the coolest thing about my major is that I can do so many different things with it. It is a very interesting major and I'm glad I chose it.

This summer I did a lot of traveling. To start of the summer I went to New York City with two of my friends and while I was there I decided to make an spontaneous trip to Washington D.C. which also happens to be my favorite place

When I came back from there my mom had recently went to Pakistan to visit family leaving my sister and me. We both missed her after three days so we decided to make another spontaneous trip to Pakistan to surprise her there. It's always fun to leave the country but the long plane rides are the hardest things to do.

When I came back I had another trip planned to Atlanta and I stayed there for a couple days. After I came back some of my friends wanted to do a trip to the Grand Canyon but I was too tired so I pulled out.

I don't really have any hobbies so when my trips were all over I was sitting at home bored waiting for school to start. I had never had that feeling before but after this first week I immediately regret thinking that.

My favorite TV show would have to be The Office. I know it's a popular show but I have seen its 4 different times and I always catch something new each time,

An interesting thing about me is that I work for the Oklahoma City Thunder. I started as a ball boy for them about 5 years ago and moved up to team attendant. It's a really cool place to work since I get to interact with players and get paid to watch the games.

  1. Hi Mohammad,

First off, The Office is my favorite show too! I agree that there is always something new to find and it is hilarious! Washington D.C. is on my list of places I would like to visit. There is so much history and significance in one place. Your job with the OKC Thunder sound really cool! It can never be a bad thing when you get paid to watch the games. Nice to meet you!

  2. MIS is a great major, Mohammad! You get all the advantages of that business school context while also learning a lot about technology. Maybe you will learn some new browser-based tricks in this class! If you want to activate your account at Create.ou.edu you can get webspace of your own to do all kinds of tech experiments if you want, with your own file space and control panel, etc. etc. And I think you are the first person I have met who actually works for the Thunder: wow! I am guessing there are some Thunder fans in the class who will be very impressed to learn about that. Very cool indeed! And it also very cool that you have family connections to Pakistan: that is a place I would really like to visit someday. If you are interested in doing a project on Pakistani or Punjabi folktales, there are some great materials online. The Punjab in particular is one of the great storytelling centers of the world; we have a Raja Rasalu unit coming up in class, just to take one example! :-)

  3. Hi Mohammad! It is so cool to hear about your travels. I personally as a homebody that only talks about leaving, but you really do it. From New York to Pakistan, it must have been a crazy summer so I can see why when you were sitting at home you were bored. However, I agree that after week one of school I was ready for the summer again. MIS is a really cool major, again something I could never do, but I'm glad you are happy with your choice as it opens so many doors to future possibilities. Best of luck!

  4. Hey Mohammad! It’s so cool that you travel so much! I can’t image being on a plane for so long, though. I was also bored during the summer when I didn’t have anything to do. Maybe you’ll find a hobby you’re really passionate about soon! My advice is to just try new things whenever you get the opportunity. It’s also amazing that you work for the Thunder! I’m not a huge NBA fan, but I’ll be going to my first game in October, and I think it will be fun. I do go to every OU football game with the band, so I understand how fun attending major sports games can be. Nice to meet you!

  5. Hey Mohammad,
Wow! You traveled a bunch this summer! Is that a normal amount for you or was this a particularly busy summer? I am such a planner that I really can’t imagine a “spontaneous” trip, especially out of the country!
You mentioned that you are an MIS major. What is that, and what do you want to do with it? I hope you’re less stressed than the first week!

  6. Hey Mohammad,
I think that it's awesome that you get to travel a lot. I bet that creates a lot of new experiences for you that will be very beneficial in the future. Personally, I don't like to travel too much because I like to stay in my comfort zone. I've always wanted to visit New York City though, I'm sure it would be really fun there. I visited Washington D.C. a few years ago and I really enjoyed sightseeing and taking everything in. I really love The Office too. I've only watched it once, but I'll go back and re-watch specific episodes in random orders. That's awesome that you work with the Thunder. That comes with a lot a perks haha.

  7. Hi Mohammad!

Working for the Thunder is wild, congrats on working your way up! Not only is The Office my favorite show, but D.C. is also my favorite place to visit within the United States. I have a fond appreciation for the set up and cleanliness of the city in addition to its many museums. I could of spent much more time in the National Museum of Art. Also, I had a mad respect for your major, MIS is not easy and it takes a true thorough understanding of the material in order to be successful, so congrats on your success in that as well!

  8. Hi Mohammad! I loved your introduction post! I am such a poor student when it comes to anything business, so props to you! That is a ton of traveling and spontaneous trips! I don’t think I could ever do that, but it sounded like a lot of fun! I’ve gone to NYC twice actually! I had to go because my siblings were graduating from a college up there but I think I would go back for a week and relive my experience. Finally, The Office is my favorite show too. My roommate always makes fun of me because I’m always watching it. I’ve probably seen it at least 8 times through, so I understand. Thanks for sharing!

  9. Hi, Mohammad! I really enjoyed reading your introduction post! I have never had much interest in anything business related, but I know it is a very difficult field to major in so I find it really cool that that is the major you chose! I am so jealous of all your traveling! I have always wanted to travel more, but I have never had the time or the money to do so. I am lucky enough to say that I have been to London and Paris in the past, but I would love to go to New York! Believe it or not, I have actually never seen an episode of The Office! Everyone says it's amazing but I have never found myself interested in it! Anyway, good luck with the rest of your semester!

  10. Hey Mohammad! I really enjoyed reading your post! It's so cool all the traveling you did this summer. My aunt lives in Washington D.C., but surprisingly she isn't the biggest fan of living there. I am also visiting NYC in a couple of weeks for school, so that's really cool you got to visit there as well. I love The Office, too! My favorite episode is Dinner Party! I think it's so cool you worked for OKC Thunder! Hope you have a great semester!

  12. Hey Mohammad!
I am also from Pakistan so I know what those routine visits back to the homeland are like! I also love the Office and the Thunder! We might be the same person... I think it is awesome that you get to interact with players, I freaking love Russ with all my heart. Our season started out bad, but I still have hope! I look forward to reading your stories and all the perspectives that you have to share.

  13. Hello Mohammad, MIS is such a great major and I’m glad that you are very interested in it! It is really cool that you got to travel a lot last summer. I have always wanted to travel around but never have the opportunity to. I have been to Washington D.C once before though when I was a child. It was such a neat place to walk around and explore.

  14. Hi Mohammad! Wow, your summer sounds like it was incredible! I got to do a semester abroad, but I would love to travel more, even if it's just within the US. That's also really sweet that you surprised your mom in Pakistan, I'm sure she loved it. My mom loves when I return to Dallas, even if she knows about it ahead of time so I can only imagine what kind of fun you had with your family. Your job also sounds really cool. Enjoy the rest of your semester and I look forward to reading more stories from you!

  15. Nice to meet you Mohammad,
What exactly is MIS and why did you chose it? I also like traveling but it can be tiring after so much! What did you do while in Washington D.C? I have always wanted to go. Also, its pretty cool you work for the Thunder! Do you get to go to away games as well?

  17. Hey Mohammad! MIS is such a fun thing to story, it was one of the more interesting classes I've taken in my 4+ years at OU. I haven't done a ton of traveling, but I remember loving the D.C. trip I took (wow, almost 9 years ago. Time flies) with my class. That's such a cool thing about working with the Thunder! Good luck with finals coming up!

  18. Hi Mohammad! I think MIS is a cool major and it’s applicable to all sorts of things. I like your travels. New York City and Washington D.C. sound like great places. I wish to visit there someday. Trip to Pakistan must have been really long! It’s literally the opposite side of the globe and the flight must have taken several hours. You’ve traveled to a lot of places. Working for OKC Thunder sounds like a cool experience. It’s nice to meet you Mohammad!

  19. Hi Mohammad,
Getting paid to watch basketball games sounds like a pretty great job, although I'm sure there's quite a bit more to it than just that. I don't know much about the MIS major, but I hope that you've been enjoying your classes so far. Hopefully this semester has gone well for you as well. Good luck on your finals!
