Week 2 Story: The man with Three Wishes

Image
Updated Story There was a man that lived not too long ago who was in his late twenties. He found a lamp one day and decided to rub it. Out came a genie that granted him three wishes which could be whatever the man wanted them to be. The man at this time was working as a doctor and decided he was done helping people so he wanted to travel the world. He told the genie to make him a pilot so that he could fly anywhere he wanted and see different places. The genie agreed and made the man a pilot which left the man with two more wishes. After only a week of being a pilot he decided that this wasn't the life for him because he would have to be awake for the majority of the flight and be cramped in a tiny little cockpit.  When he was a doctor he had to he was awake a lot as well but he liked that much better because he was actually helping people. The man had always wanted to be a professional football player so he summoned the genie so he could use his second wish to become a foo

Reading Notes "The Man in the Moon" Part B

The Man in the Moon   by Katherine Neville Fleeson This story was very interesting to me. It started off with someone complaining about being a blacksmith and they wanted to do something else. Then when he gets changed into the stone he doesn't like that because it hurts him when he is cut. It keeps going on and on because he can't decide what life he wants until he chooses the moon because he thinks it looks cool. He finds out that it is a really hot place then begs to be changed into the very first thing he was but is not allowed to. There is a strong message behind this story in my eyes. It's what makes the story great because it's saying that what you are in the first thing might be the thing you like the most and don't think other things are better just by looking at them. The man is still stuck as the Moon. Source I like how it didn't say that the wise man was God but he was just a person who controlled everything. I think that adds more descripti

Reading Options

Beowulf The first unit that grabbed my attention was Beowulf. I have never read the story but I have heard the name plenty of times and was always interested in learning more about him. It was one of the very first units that popped out to me and when I saw it it made me happy to know that there is some stories that I might actually know. Dante's Inferno The same reason I clicked on Beowulf was the same reason that I clicked on Dante's Inferno. I have heard about this story many time and in my high school I knew there was a class that required the students to read it. I was however not in that class so I didn't get a chance to read it but now I will for sure make this one of the units that I read. Homer's Odyssey I know my three selections might be the most popular but I also chose them because I have not read them before and would like to. They are popular for a reason so it might be good for me to read about them. It seems like an interesting story since it

Time Strategies

Image
From the article 3 Steps to Recapture Time ,  the most important thing I took away from it was the first 15 minutes. When Joynicole Martinez talked about how you can't plan a trip if you don't know the destination it really spoke to me. I think that's very true in a lot of instances. I like how she says you shouldn't overload yourself with a lot of things to do and you should break each thing up 3 to 4 times. The other article I read was the Four Questions to Help You Overcome Procrastination  . I really enjoyed this one because I am a person that procrastinates a lot. The first question is such a simple thing but the effect of it starts your entire day. Just by doing one thing to start you are ready to control everything.  The third one related to me because I am a person that always tries to find the easiest way to do something and this article basically condones that. The fourth one was a little intense but still had the right idea. If I don't think about my ac

Technology

Image
I already am familiar with a couple things like bookmarking. I bookmarked the calendar for this class the very first day because it seemed like I needed it. Everything else though seems new to me. I've never blogged before or edited an image before. I have definitely not created my own graphic which sounds really complicated. Connections across the world with the use of technology, Source This class is very different from any other online class I've had. The other classes usually just have Learn Smart in it and quizzes every week. With this class I feel like I will learn in a different way. I'll be challenged to be creative and learn more about technology which I think is a good idea in a online class.

Assignments

Image
The assignment I am most intrigued by has to be the main project or even the story telling. I've never been a person that creates stories or anything like that so this will be completely new to me. I am excited for the reading because it somewhat resembles what I have done in other classes but otherwise everything in this class is basically new to me. I have never had a class where you are the one basically choosing your own assignment. Also, the storytelling aspect is completely unique too because I am being graded on telling a story. Knowledge The biggest extra credit that grabs my attention and sounds the coolest is the Wikipedia Trails. I have always wondered through Wikipedia by just clicking on random links so for me to get extra credit off of that is amazing. The tech tips sounds interesting to me too because of my major and you basically get extra credit for learning things that will make this class easier.

Growth Mindset

Image
I have never heard about this idea before until now. It sounds very interesting to me because no one has ever taught me anything like that before. If I was to be a kid in school now or a parent of a child in school then I would want to learn like this. The most important thing that a child can hear is that they haven't failed. With this ideology it's just saying they haven't succeeded yet. That's huge for a child's growth as you can see from what happens to the kids in Chicago. I may fail but I am never a failure. (From the Growth Mindset memes blog ) They get scared of failure so they try to find other ways around it instead of just learning. I remember when I was a kid if I had gotten a low score on a test then I would look around and find out if I was the lowest score. It made me happy to know I wasn't the lowest score because that's the ultimate failure.  I think if growth mindset was applied to schools more then there would be an upward tren

Introduction to a future business owner

Image
Hi, my name is Mohammad Noon. My major is MIS and the coolest thing about my major is that I can do so many different things with it. It is a very interesting major and I'm glad I chose it.  This summer I did a lot of traveling. To start of the summer I went to New York City with two of my friends and while I was there I decided to make an spontaneous trip to Washington D.C. which also happens to be my favorite place .  When I came back from there my mom had recently went to Pakistan to visit family leaving my sister and me. We both missed her after three days so we decided to make another spontaneous trip to Pakistan to surprise her there. It's always fun to leave the country but the long plane rides are the hardest things to do.  The World, Source  When I came back I had another trip planned to Atlanta and I stayed there for a couple days. After I came back some of my friends wanted to do a trip to the Grand Canyon but I was too tired so I pulled out.

Storybook Favorites

Paradise City, Source: NetSeawolf's Deviant Art Siren, City in the Clouds As soon as I started reading this story I was intrigued by it. I have always wondered about cities in the future and what they would be like. The title immediately grabbed my attention because of its descriptiveness and even the name of the city sounded intriguing. The introduction does grab my attention because of the way it describes the city. By saying its "full of lights" and that there is always something happening it makes me want to read more about it. The design of the blog is very bold and the descriptions for the other parts of the story help guide me through it easily.  Remember the Alamo! This story's narrator is what made me want to read it. Also the historic part of this makes me want to read about it to find out if it is true or not. I have always wondered about the Alamo and by finding a story about it it makes me want to learn as well. The picture is an old pho

Washington D.C., My Favorite Place

Image
My favorite place is Washington D.C. I was born on the border of D.C. and Virginia. My whole childhood I was only 5 minutes away from the capitol of the nation. It is an amazing place where a lot of history has taken place. It's where our laws are created and passed, where our highest court is, and the most incredible museums are located. Washington Monument and the Reflecting Pool Source: Image           Another reason why I love it so much is that all my childhood friends are there. I keep in contact with them all the time and I have gone back home every year for the past 4 years. I went twice this past year and its always a blast to be with old friends and go visit old places that meant so much to me as a child. I one day hope to live there for at least a little bit because I loved it so much.
